Change of Clothes

Standard

This weekend, my husband and I moved into our first house.  Yup, that’s right– I’m an actual adult homeowner now.  Wowza.

Anyways, we FINALLY got to get our stuff out of storage that has been packed away since last January.  If unpacking all of your like-new wedding gifts isn’t what heaven is like, then I don’t know what is.  I had a blast unpacking the kitchen stuff, but when it came time for the closet stuff, I was almost hoping I would come down with an illness so that Kellen would have to do it all.

We ended up going through two massive boxes of clothes we left behind when we made our move to the islands.  A lot of stuff was put into a donation pile (it’s amazing how your sense of what you “need” changes when you live in a different place).  But I did not get rid of any of my winter gear.

It hadn’t been cold at all yet this year.  The slightly chilly days called for a light sweater, which I just happened to have for traveling purposes.  And I did have two pairs of jeans that I brought to St. Croix (and never wore), so I was set there.  The first day I put on jeans again in two years was awkward– it felt like I was wearing compression tights.  But, this weekend, I unpacked all of my cold-weather gear– at least 5 pairs of jeans, sweaters, sweatshirts, sweatpants, scarves, jackets, boots, and hats.  Perfect timing too, because a nice little cold front blew in yesterday.  Had we not unpacked our stuff, I would be stuck wearing my island clothes of jean shorts and short sleeved shirt (which I have been wearing since our return in May).

My entire thought process for this blog post came because I realized that today I’m wearing a long-sleeved flannel shirt and jeans, and I brought a jacket for this morning.  I haven’t worn this much clothing in two years.  Now you all know that I am NOT a winter person…. but I’m gunna be honest when I say that I am slightly excited about breaking out my scarf collection.  Bring on the cold(ish) weather!

PS- even though I have jeans and a long sleeved shirt on today, I’m still wearing flip flops.  Old habits die hard, I guess.
